Organize Your Time with These 5 Tips

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot – Michael Altshuler.

Time is something we must use wisely, or else we may end up regretting the lost opportunities. The most successful people are those who take the time to organize their day. They understand the importance of having goals and working towards achieving them. Time management is essential to help us design and control our future. These are some tips to help you value your time daily:

  • Set your goals and priorities. Make a daily plan to achieve our goals on that day. Don’t forget to prioritize what we should achieve first. Prioritizing will help you manage your time and decide what to do. It would be best to recognize that there are urgent and important daily matters.
  • Create a schedule. One of the best ways to manage time is to create a schedule. Several simple tools can help you to schedule your time effectively. Add more detail to your plan, so the tool you choose needs to be able to allocate time slots. Block out specific time for each task, and stick to the schedule as much as possible. This technique will help you plan your day, week, or month to allocate time for a specific task.
  • Don’t multitask. Some think doing many things simultaneously is the most efficient way to use time. But it wastes more time because people cannot multitask well. Earl Miller, a Neuroscientist, said that humans couldn’t focus on more than one thing at a time,  “People can’t multitask very well, and when people say they can, they’re deluding themselves.”
  • Use the 80/20 rule. It’s a principle by Pareto. Vilfredo Pareto is an Italian economist and sociologist. He found this principle in 1896. This rule means 20 percent of action will drive to 80 percent of results. We must know which priorities (the 20 percent) will cause the most effects. For the rest, you can delegate those jobs.
  • Eliminate distractions. Distractions are one of the most significant time wasters. A pervasive distraction that we face is notifications. So, we can turn off our phone notifications or work in a quiet place where we can focus.

These strategies allow us to achieve our goals and enjoy a more balanced life. But to accomplish that, consistency is the key. Do not let laziness beat you. Remember, what you do today determines your future. Use your time wisely (CLA).
